Course Care

What is your Course Care Golf IQ?

In order to achieve and maintain playing surfaces at New South Wales Golf Club to the level that Members and Guests have come to expect, we ask that all those playing the course abide the following care of the course practices. It’s an initiative where all golfers, while enjoying their game of golf, also take great pride in the conditions of the golf course. Increase your Golf IQ by following the advice below on how to care for the course properly. All Members & Guests are expected to uphold these requirements at all times:

Pitch Marks on Greens

Players should be diligent in looking for and repairing their own pitch marks on the greens plus at least one other. Pitch repairers are available from the Golf Shop or use a tee if you lose your repairer. Not sure how to repair a pitch mark? Divots

Sand fill is required to be used at New South Wales Golf Club, however players should attempt to repair their divots on the tees, fairway and rough areas by using an iron to
chop-in” the edges of divots which will assist with turf recovery. Not sure how to repair a divot? Click the image below or ask the Golf Shop staff for a demonstration next time you are at the club.

Bunkers

Players should use the rakes available to restore the sand in a bunker after playing out. No one enjoys finding their ball at rest in a footprint or in front of a clump of sand in a bunker left by a player who has a low Golf IQ. Ensure that the sand is raked smooth and pushed back towards the middle of the bunker. Please do not leave the rake in the middle of the bunker or on the sidewalls. The rake should be placed outside and to the site of the bunker. Use your club to knock off excess sand from your shoes before walking onto a fairway or green. Trolleys

If using a pull trolley or electric buggy, do not walk between a green and a bunker. Take a wide berth to protect these narrow and delicate areas.

Carts

Carts must always be driven on designated paths where available and must not be driven or parked on turf that is within 10 metres of a green. Keep to high and dry areas where possible, avoid low lying wet areas and do not ride along the edge of a path. Click the images below:

General Wear & Tear

Keep an eye out for high traffic areas where turf is well worn. Take a wide berth around these areas, especially when entering or exiting the concrete paths near the teeing area. Walk or driving through GUR and/or wet areas should be avoided if possible. Click the images below:

Driving Range Etiquette

Always hit between the designated areas that are prepared with white rope. Return your bucket to the range machine at the end of your practice/warm-up session. To extend the turf life and assist quicker re-growth, use the linear divot pattern as per the below guidelines from the USGA:
