Match Play – Terms of Competition

Match Play Events

Entry into a Competition

Where any player qualifies for a match play event and the player advises the Match Committee the player wishes to enter that event by ticking a box on the score card or by some other method agreed by the Match Committee, the player acknowledges he or she is making a commitment to the Club and to each other player in that event the player is available and (barring illness, accident or misadventure) will be available to play each match at the time(s) and on the date(s) set down in the program for that event.

Players must inform the Match Committee and any prospective opponent without delay if for any reason they are or become unavailable to play each match at the time(s) and on the date(s) set down in the program for that event. Players who fail to honour this commitment and without disclosing a sufficient reason may be asked to show cause why they should be permitted to qualify for or enter one or more future match play events.

Club ChampionshipsClub Championship, La Perouse Cup, Cape Banks Cup & Minmi Cup

All matches must be played on the date and time scheduled by the Match Committee unless a player can show exceptional circumstances, his or her opponent agrees and the Match Committee has provided consent for the match to be played earlier than the scheduled date and time.

Date and Time for completion of matches

Subject to the rules of golf and the conditions of the competition:

  • If a time and date has been scheduled by the Match Committee:

All matches must be played on or before the date set for the match. If the date is before the scheduled date, approval must be obtained from the Match Committee. Such approval if given will cover the time and date of play and the tees to be used.

  • If no time and date has been scheduled by the Match Committee:

Players shall mutually arrange their matches. If players are unable to arrange their matches by agreement, the Match Committee shall determine the final day by which the match shall be played. The match shall then be played on or before that date.

Posting of Results

It is the players’ responsibility to report the result of their match to the Match Committee through the Golf Shop at the end of their match.  The result will be final once this occurs.

Non-attendance of player(s)/teams for a match

All decisions on matters arising from the non-attendance of players at their match shall be made by the Match Committee, in its absolute discretion, after considering the circumstances and the Match Committee may make any of the following determinations:

(i) If a player/side fails to attend on the scheduled time and date (or on a time and date mutually arranged and approved by the Match Committee) and there are no exceptional circumstances to explain the player’s/side’s non-attendance, the opponent will be adjudged the winner by forfeit.

(ii) Disqualification of the non-attending players/sides (including the disqualification of both sides if neither side reports by the scheduled time and date and the Match Committee is satisfied that there are no exceptional circumstances to waive the disqualification);

(iii) If neither side reports and the Match Committee is satisfied that there are exceptional circumstances to waive the penalty of disqualification, the match may be re-scheduled at a later time and date determined by the Match Committee, or if that is not possible or appropriate in the circumstances, the Match Committee may draw lots to determine the winner.
