LARN Cup

Posted on: 19 November

Kinglsey Wilson, then Captain of The Lakes Golf Club, approached The Australian, NSW, and Royal Sydney Golf Clubs with the view of holding our own round robin competition. This was agreed to and on Wednesday 19th July 1995, representatives from each Club met at The Lakes after enjoying a friendly round of golf. It was agreed at the meeting that all players were to be at least 55 years of age at the commencement of the rounds.

Play in 4’s with individual match play and 7 per side with one reserve. All matches are of 18 holes only with the finals matches only, allowed to progress past the 18th hole if required. Teams seeded 1 and 2 after rounds 3 to contest the final (LARN CUP). Teams 3 and 4 after 3 rounds to contest the dreaded wooden spoon. At the meeting the Committee had to decide upon a name for the competition. Des Turner representing The Australian, suggested “LARN” formed from the name of each Club, i.e., “l” Lakes, “A” Australian, “R” Royal Sydney, “N” NSW.
